About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Radiation Protection Specialist to join our team at Culham Centre for Fusion Energy (CCFE). The successful candidate will work closely with Health Physicists (HP) and Radiation Protection Advisers (RPA) to ensure observance with regulations contained in Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017, Environmental Permitting Regulations, COSHH and other related legislation.

In this role, you will provide advice and guidance to personnel on radiation protection matters, including the implementation of requirements for controlled and supervised areas, examination of plans for installations, calibration of equipment, periodic examination and testing of engineering controls, and designation of controlled and supervised areas.

You will also conduct investigations as required by IRR17 and the Company, draw up contingency plans, perform dose assessments, and record doses as per regulation 22. Additionally, you will help provide advice on safety issues associated with working with beryllium and support HPs/RPAs in providing technical support to corporate activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advice and guidance to personnel on radiation protection matters
  • Implement requirements for controlled and supervised areas
  • Conduct investigations as required by IRR17 and the Company
  • DRAW UP CONTINGENCY PLANS
  • Perform dose assessments and record doses
  • Help provide advice on safety issues associated with working with beryllium
  • Support HPs/RPAs in providing technical support to corporate activities

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Degree in Science or related discipline or equivalent qualification
  • Keen to learn about Radiation Protection
  • Comfortable talking to a wide range of personnel with varied backgrounds
