Job Title: Ophthalmic Technician

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Ophthalmic Technician to join our team at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the delivery of our ophthalmology services.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Operate advanced ophthalmic imaging equipment to collect information for diagnosis and management of sight-threatening eye conditions.
  • Perform visual field testing, retinal and ocular photography, and biometry.
  • Assist with minor procedures and provide clear instructions to patients.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and statistical requirements for ophthalmic imaging clinics.
  • Contribute to the development of the service and care to patients.
Requirements:
  • Level 3 NVQ (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field.
  • GCSE level Maths & English (or equivalent experience).
  • Relevant diploma level qualification (or demonstrates equivalent competency).
  • Previous experience working in a hospital setting, particularly in ophthalmic technical roles.
  • Intermediate level theoretical and practical knowledge of ophthalmic clinic settings.

Please note that senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) may be expected to participate in an on-call rota, if the role is predominantly operational.
