Wolverhampton, Wolverhampton, United Kingdom Department for Business and Trade Full time

About the Department for Business and Trade

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) is a key part of the Department for Business and Trade, driving regulation to deliver real-world impact. By addressing market failures and influencing behaviour, we promote growth, innovation, and efficiency.

Our primary purpose is to protect people and places from product-related harm, ensuring consumers and businesses can buy and sell products with confidence.

Your Work with Us

In this pivotal role, you'll be a senior member of our Heat Networks team, building a sustainable and efficient energy landscape for the country. Working at the forefront of driving compliance with the heat networks sector, you'll collaborate closely with stakeholders, including the Department for Energy and Net Zero, OFGEM, and internal teams to develop and execute strategies that achieve our regulatory goals.

You'll lead a highly professional team of enforcement officers and technical experts, responsible for creating and implementing operational plans, including financial management and performance reporting.

We're committed to fostering positive collaboration throughout our organisation, and you'll play a key role in delivering expert advice to government.

About You

We're looking for someone with a degree or equivalent in an engineering or related subject, who can quickly acquire and apply technical knowledge. Your strong analytical abilities will allow you to interpret complex data, identify trends, and inform decision making. A strategic mindset will enable you to develop and implement effective plans, adapting to changing priorities and delivering results under pressure.

You'll need superb interpersonal and communication skills to build excellent relationships with industry representatives, policymakers, consumers, and other stakeholders. Leading teams and collaborating with colleagues will also require your motivational skills.

This role may involve occasional travel to sites within the UK, so you should be flexible and adaptable.

What We Offer

We offer a range of excellent benefits, including a Civil Service pension, flexible working options, and a work culture that encourages inclusion and diversity. You'll enjoy learning and development tailored to your role, flexible working options, and a work culture that promotes equality of opportunity.

We value diversity and inclusion, actively encouraging and welcoming applications from everyone, including those under-represented in our workforce.
