SEMH Teaching Assistant Role

We are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to support a student with SEMH needs in a Secondary school in Thetford. The successful candidate will have relevant qualifications in education or child development and experience working with children with SEMH needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist students individually or in small groups with their educational activities.
  • Implement and adapt educational programs to meet the needs of students with SEMH.
  • Support teachers in planning and delivering lessons that cater to SEMH needs.
  • Assist teachers in managing student classroom behaviour to ensure a positive learning environment.
  • Implement individualised behaviour support plans.
  • Build positive relationships with students to understand their needs and challenges.
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement to help students build self-esteem and resilience.
  • Participate in multi-agency meetings and contribute to the development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCO, and other support staff.
  • Liaise with external agencies to support students SEMH needs.
Requirements:
  • Relevant qualifications in education or child development.
  • Experience working with children with SEMH needs, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Understanding of SEMH challenges and strategies to support students.
  • Additional training or qualifications in SEMH.
