Unlocking Malaria Transmission Blockage with Novel Vaccine Targets

Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time

With a focus on eradicating malaria, the University of Cambridge is seeking a talented PhD student to join our esteemed research team. As part of this fully-funded 4-year studentship, you will contribute to the development of novel transmission blocking vaccines (TBVs) targeting the parasitic ookinete stage.

The malaria parasite's lifecycle within mosquitoes presents a unique opportunity for intervention. By identifying and characterizing surface proteins that initiate an immunological response, we can develop effective TBVs to prevent disease transmission. In collaboration with Dr Andrew Blagborough, you will leverage genetically altered parasites to map the molecular landscape of the parasite surface, paving the way for innovative vaccine design.

This exciting project offers a chance to make a tangible impact in the fight against malaria. With funding covering your stipend at the current Research Council rate and University Fees, you will be free to focus on advancing your research skills and contributing to groundbreaking work.

We welcome applicants holding or expecting to obtain a UK 2.1 or higher undergraduate honours or Master's degree in a relevant subject. This studentship is open to those eligible for Home rate University fees, allowing you to thrive in an inclusive environment.

The successful candidate will be committed to ensuring all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK, upholding the University's values of equality, diversity, and inclusion.

In recognition of their dedication, successful applicants will receive a salary range of £25,000-£31,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
