Job Summary:
We are seeking a creative and highly motivated scientist to join our team developing new technologies and advanced materials for sustainable mineral extraction. The ideal candidate will be keen to develop new skills, grow beyond their comfort zone, and apply themselves practically in the lab. The role involves assessing technologies in their infancy, looking deeply at the challenges, and driving novel research into these, exploring routes to real-world application.
Responsibilities:
- Literature, patent, and commercial technology assessment/review.
- Design and perform experiments, analyze, and interpret experimental data.
- Lead development of and novel research into new technologies in the mineral extraction space.
- Engage and collaborate with SLB's technical community.
- Publish in scientific journals, write patent applications, present to stakeholders, attend conferences, and customer/collaborator meetings.
- General lab housekeeping: lab safety and equipment maintenance.
- PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- Research experience in electrochemical technologies, such as electrolyzers, fuel cells, flow batteries, electrodialysis, or similar.
- OR: Research experience in desalination, hydrometallurgy, water treatment, nanofiltration, reverse osmosis, brine processing, mineral extraction, ion separation, membrane separation, or similar.
- Experience with the design and construction of experimental rigs for fluids research.
- Bonus: Practical experience with electrochemical cells, operation, fabrication, or modification.
- Bonus: Experience with advanced characterization techniques such as ICP, SEM, XPS, NMR.
- Bonus: Experience with scientific programming/software such as Python, MATLAB, LabView.
