Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Critical Care Nurse to join our team as an Enhanced Level Practitioner. The successful candidate will work autonomously to provide patient-centred clinical care to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care for the acutely and critically ill patient outside of the critical care unit.

The ideal candidate will have a teaching qualification and experience of working in multi-professional teams. They will be responsible for managing their own workload, assessing and managing risk, and providing effective clinical and professional leadership.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for interfacing critical care outreach across adult clinical specialties within secondary care, managing sickness in accordance with health board attendance management policies, and supporting the investigation of incident reports and complaints.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver clinical care as an outreach practitioner at an enhanced level, working as part of a 24-hour rota supporting the management of the deteriorating patient.
  • Respond to a range of calls for support from a variety of adult clinical specialties across the hospital site, managing and delegating their workload effectively.
  • Assess and treat the acutely deteriorating patient to prevent admission to, or manage safe transfer to critical care in a timely manner in line with health board policy and NICE guidance.
  • Review patients on discharge from critical care within a 48-hour window, assisting in their rehabilitation and providing ongoing monitoring.
  • Support the delivery of critical care management strategies outside of the critical care unit, and provide safe escort and transfer of acutely/critically ill patients both inter and intra hospital where required.
