Job Title: Deputy Director of Estates and Facilities

We are seeking an experienced Senior Estates and Facilities professional to join our team as Deputy Director of Estates and Facilities. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a blend of leadership, strategic thinking, communication, and technical skills.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the strategic and operational management of the Trust's Estates and Facilities functions, ensuring they align with the Trust's strategies and objectives. This will involve:

  • Developing and aligning the Trust's estate strategy with clinical and corporate objectives.
  • Leading the delivery of major capital projects, including planning for redevelopment, backlog, and investment.
  • Managing the organization's estates infrastructure and master planning.
  • Ensuring effective estates and facilities management, covering maintenance, energy, fire safety, and more.
Key Responsibilities:

The Deputy Director of Estates and Facilities will be responsible for:

  • Strategic Leadership and Management:
    • Developing and implementing the Trust's estate strategy.
    • Leading the delivery of major capital projects.
    • Managing the organization's estates infrastructure and master planning.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Building and maintaining relationships with internal stakeholders, including Trust Board, Clinical Directors, and Staff Representatives.
    • Representing the Trust in local and national engagement with external stakeholders.
  • Financial Management:
    • Managing significant revenue and capital budgets.
    • Developing business cases to support investment and deliver cost improvement programmes.
    • Monitoring expenditure, managing resources, and seeking efficiencies to achieve savings targets.
  • People Management:
    • Leading and developing teams across various functions and disciplines.
    • Promoting professional standards and a positive culture within the estates and facilities department.
  • Information Management:
    • Overseeing property databases and information systems for estates and facilities.
    • Analysing estates and facilities data for reporting purposes and strategic planning.
  • Policy Development and Implementation:
    • Developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure compliance and safety.
    • Leading change management initiatives and ensuring effective staff communication.
  • New Hospital Development:
    • Supporting the development of business cases for new build projects.
    • Leading estates and facilities work streams to ensure a patient-centred built environment and compliance with regulatory requirements.
    Person Specification:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A relevant degree and post-graduate qualification (level 8).
  • Chartered professional registration/accreditation / Project management certification.
  • Broad understanding of the NHS context and national agenda.
  • Extensive senior management experience in estates and facilities.
  • Technical, construction, and project management skills.
  • Proven track record in strategic planning and budget management.
  • Effective partnership working across sectors.
  • Financial control and risk management expertise.
  • Achieving ambitious targets within tight budgets.
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
