Job Title: Learning Support Assistant - Special Education Needs

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join our team at Canbury School Limited. As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special educational needs, ensuring their access to learning and promoting their academic and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting Students:
    • Supervise and provide individualized support to students with special educational needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
    • Assist with the development and implementation of Student Passports and progress tracking reports.
    • Establish positive relationships with students, acting as a role model and responding to individual needs.
    • Promote inclusion and acceptance of all students, encouraging interaction and independence.
    • Provide in-class and withdrawal support for individuals and small groups of students, across various curriculum areas.
    • Work collaboratively with colleagues and professionals, such as Speech and Language Therapists and Educational Psychologists.
    • Help create resources for students and provide support for personal, emotional, social, and behavioral challenges.
    • Develop students' cognitive skills, problem-solving abilities, and encourage participation in extracurricular activities.
    • Monitor and record student progress, writing reports as necessary.
    • Support students in overcoming barriers to learning, both in and out of school, to achieve their full potential.
  • Support for Teachers:
    • Prepare classrooms for lessons and maintain a purposeful, orderly, safe, and supportive environment.
    • Use strategies to support students in achieving learning goals, in liaison with teachers.
    • Assist with lesson planning, managing student behavior, and reporting difficulties as needed.
    • Gather and report information from parents, carers, students, and teachers, as directed.
    • Administer routine tests, invigilate exams, and undertake routine marking of students' work.
  • Support for the School:
    • Contribute to the school's vision and ethos, promoting equal opportunities and access to learning for all students.
    • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures related to child protection, safeguarding, and confidentiality.
    • Attend relevant meetings, participate in training, and performance development as required.
    • Supervise students out of lessons, at lunchtimes, and before/after school, following consultation and agreement.
    • Accompany teaching staff and students on visits, trips, and out-of-school activities, taking responsibility for a group under the teacher's supervision.
    • Cover for absent colleagues when required, maintaining high standards of personal presentation, attendance, and punctuality.
