London, Greater London, United Kingdom MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences Full time

We are seeking a talented researcher to work on a new collaboration on human aging with Calico Labs.

Aging is a key risk factor for cardiovascular disease, and recent work has identified several potential mechanisms by which human aging could be attenuated. This project uses cardiovascular MRI to assess modifiable mechanisms of aging, available at MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences in the Computational Cardiac Imaging Group headed by Professor O'Regan.

The LMS is a world-class research laboratory where scientists and clinicians collaborate to advance the understanding of biology and its application to medicine. Funded by the MRC as part of UK Research and Innovation, the LMS has a collaborative working culture and a state-of-the-art building based in West London.

The job requires substantial research experience in machine learning, statistics, and bioinformatics. The successful candidate will develop models for biological age prediction from multiple image-derived phenotypes using Python and R programming languages. Previous work on biomedical datasets and genomics would be an advantage, including performing GWAS and rare variant analyses in biobanked populations.

The post offers an exciting opportunity to work at the cutting-edge of translational medicine research in a vibrant and supportive multi-disciplinary team that crosses traditional scientific domains. The post holder will have the opportunity to liaise with collaborators, attend conferences, and publish results in leading journals.

For this role, we offer a competitive salary range of £44,500 - £47,320 per annum, plus London allowances (£4,026 & £1,516) per annum. If you are passionate about advancing our understanding of human aging, please submit your application, including your CV and two scientific references, along with a cover letter stating why you are applying for this role.
