Software Engineer for Bioinformatics and Genomics

Salary:The estimated annual salary for this role is £90,000 - £120,000, depending on experience and location.
Job DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join our team at Genomics England. As a key member of our bioinformatics and genomics group, you will play a crucial role in shaping the technical direction of our bio-pipelines platform.
The successful candidate will have strong software engineering skills, with a focus on Python development. Experience with API schema design, DevOps, and cloud computing (AWS preferred) is also essential.
You will be part of a dynamic team that works closely with clinicians, researchers, and industry partners to deliver cutting-edge solutions for genomic healthcare.
About the Role- Design and develop high-quality software components for our bio-pipelines platform
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define architectural directions and shape the technical strategy
- Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends, incorporating them into our software development practices
- Contribute to the wider conversation at Genomics England, helping to mature our technical practices
- Strong software engineering skills, with a focus on Python development
- Experience with API schema design, DevOps, and cloud computing (AWS preferred)
- Knowledge of different database types and their applicability in a given context
- Ability to navigate rapidly to effective solutions through engaged and inclusive listening, clarity of thought, clear documentation, and succinct presentation
