Job Title: Consultant in Gerontology

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant in Gerontology to join our team at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care to older adults with complex medical needs.

About the Role

This is a dynamic and challenging role that requires a strong clinical background in General Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine. You will be expected to contribute to the development and implementation of innovative pathways of care, as well as participate in academic research and teaching.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the weekly running of the Frailty Assessment Unit and explore new ways of working at the hospital-community interface.
  • Participate in the General Unselected Medical Take, weekend Frailty and Gerontology support, and out-of-hours Gerontology telephone on-call rota.
  • Support outpatient activity through targeted follow-up and contribute to the admission avoidance rapid access HOT clinics provided by the department's Consultant Connect service.
  • Play a significant role in service redesign and quality improvement initiatives.
Requirements
  • Wide experience in all aspects of General Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine, culminating in award of Certificate of Completion of Training by GMC, or award of Certificate of Eligibility for Specialty Registration (CESR) by GMC.
  • Experience in day-to-day organisation of General Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine services in a busy Teaching Hospital.
  • Familiarity with information technology and general computer skills.
  • Effective communicator, able to work in a close-knit team and co-operate with all medical and paramedical staff.
