About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Geriatric Medicine Specialist to join our team at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. As a Consultant in Elderly Care, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality care to older patients and contributing to the development of our services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver a consultant-led liaison service to frail and complex patients on the medical admission units, providing comprehensive geriatric care.
  • Undertake ward rounds, conduct board rounds, and participate in multidisciplinary meetings to ensure timely discharge planning for older patients.
  • Support the training of junior doctors and contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
  • Develop sub-specialty interests and participate in clinical audit and continuing medical education.
  • Work closely with acute medicine and specialty colleagues to provide equitable leave cover for HSEP consultant colleagues.
Requirements
  • Be on the GMC Specialist Register for Geriatric Medicine and General Internal Medicine or be within 6 months of obtaining Certificate of Completion of Training or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).
  • Have extensive experience in geriatric medicine, including admission avoidance and community geriatrics.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to multidisciplinary team working and have comprehensive knowledge of current issues in General Medicine.
  • Have experience of and commitment to audits, IT skills, and computer literacy.
  • Be able to take responsibility, show leadership, make decisions, exert appropriate authority, and have proven skills in leading, motivating, developing, and managing the performance of colleagues.
