Program Overview

Castleton Commodities International LLC is a leading global commodities merchant, deploying capital on a proprietary basis in the physical and financial commodity markets. As a strategic investor and developer, the company leverages its market expertise, operations capabilities, and industry knowledge to invest in and develop select commodity infrastructure assets.

The company is headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut, and conducts business from offices located around the world. With a global presence and a team of over 500 employees, Castleton Commodities International LLC is a major player in the commodities industry.

Program Details

This summer internship program is designed to provide analysts with exposure to commodity products, structuring, and trading, with an emphasis on risk management. Participants will have the opportunity to participate in either two 5-week rotations or one 10-week rotation through matched trading desks.

At the end of the summer internship program, a desk may extend an offer of employment to become a future analyst. This program is a unique opportunity to gain a strong basis for a role within the business and to identify and develop people who have the desire to become active players in the company.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze markets to identify trading opportunities and understand risks
  • Design and develop models to analyze economic data, market fundamentals, and forecast prices
  • Perform research and statistical studies of identified risk factors
  • Identify market pricing trends and discontinuity
  • Design and formulate trade ideas and execute with rigorous risk management control. Run back-testing to verify the strategy prior to production execution
  • Review research reports and articles that examine recent developments in the energy markets
  • Build close connections with external consultancies and internal research teams
Requirements
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Finance, Statistics, Business, Economics, Energy, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field of study
  • Expected graduation date in 2026
  • Prior internship or exposure to the commodities markets, or experience with other financial institutions and consulting is preferred
  • Excellent analytical and technical skills in one or more of the following: R, Python, Matlab, C++, VBA, Excel—as well as SQL or other database exposure. Python is the preferred programming language. Should you be selected for interviews, be prepared to review Python and SQL.
  • Superior communication skills both verbal and written
  • Ability to work as an effective team player and add value to the team
