Job Title: HR Business Partner

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced HR Business Partner to join our team at GB Railfreight. As an HR Business Partner, you will be responsible for partnering with business leaders and managers to provide HR expertise, people-focused strategies, solutions, and direction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with client group leaders to implement and deliver the HR strategy plan, focusing on talent development, succession planning, and change management to support business growth and drive an engaged and high-performance culture.
  • Conduct regular meetings with business unit leaders, acting as a localized change agent and strategic partner, to discuss and seek solutions to people-related challenges.
  • Build and maintain relationships with client groups, becoming their trusted partner on all people-related matters, ensuring issues are identified, reported, and resolved.
  • Analyze trends and metrics in partnership with the HR team to develop solutions and policies.
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues, including investigations, TUPE, redundancy, settlements, and disputes.
  • Role model and coach managers on fair culture principles and employment law practices throughout ER cases.
  • Coach managers to become more effective and confident in people-related management practices, instructing them to use self-serve tools and HR business systems.
  • Focus on ED&I to ensure client groups perform in line with targets and maintain an inclusive culture.
  • Advise and challenge business leaders on short and medium-term HR issues.
  • Oversee apprenticeship and trainee OM development plans to ensure new talent emerges and is retained.
  • Use the Training Needs Analysis framework to address desired skills and competencies for all roles and create development plans for key roles to address gaps in a timely fashion.
  • Work with the Talent Acquisition team to provide solutions to meet resourcing needs and evaluate future resourcing needs based on knowledge and experience of the client group.
  • Support Operational Managers in local-level union matters.
  • Collaborate with other HR Business Partners to ensure a consistent approach to people matters across the business.
  • Work with the HR Manager to manage specialist projects and initiatives.
  • Actively measure and monitor existing policies and procedures within the business area.
  • Support wellness initiatives identified in the HR strategy, ensuring they are deployed across the client group, and provide innovative solutions to support the wellbeing of people across the business.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrate a strong business/commercial approach and understanding of business needs, translating them into action.
  • Proven experience of working in partnership and building strong working relationships with senior managers to improve people management.
  • Passionate about helping others and making a positive difference to people's working lives.
  • ER experience, including grievance, disciplinary, investigation, and capability handling.
  • Coaching and influencing experience.
  • Understanding of how to work with the business to identify, develop, and retain talent.
  • Excellent technical knowledge, with CIPD qualification or working towards.
  • Demonstrated strong writing skills, including investigation meetings and disciplinary outcome letters, with great attention to detail.
  • Organizational change programs, such as TUPE, redundancy, and reorganizations.
  • The experience and credibility to work effectively with senior managers.
  • Excellent knowledge of UK Employment Law, with an interest in rail and logistics desirable.
  • Proficiency with digital tools.
  • Ability to leverage Artificial Intelligence.
  • Project Management Skills desirable.
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced HR environment, working under pressure, and to tight deadlines.
  • Effective in addressing change and transformation.
  • Ability to identify and develop leaders.
  • Ability to leverage technology to increase efficiency and drive business results.
  • Attain a Strengthscope practitioner certificate.
