Prison Mental Health Services Consultant

Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly experienced Specialist Grade Psychiatrist to join our team at HMP Elmley as a Prison Mental Health Services Consultant. In this role, you will provide expert advice on mental health services to prisoners and contribute to the development of our prison mental health services.

About the Role

This is a challenging yet rewarding opportunity for a skilled psychiatrist to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for assessing prisoners with mental health needs, developing treatment plans, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver effective care. The role also involves quality improvement initiatives, research projects, and teaching opportunities. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with colleagues, prisoners, and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

The main duties of the job include:
  1. Assessing prisoners with mental health needs in the house-blocks and healthcare settings
  2. Liaising with external services to arrange CPAs, aftercare plans, or transfers to hospital
  3. Attending the inpatient unit to manage psychiatric cases and providing clinical cover to HMP Stanford Hill
  4. Quality improvement initiatives, including clinical audits, research projects, and service improvement activities

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:A minimum of 6 years' experience in psychiatryGMC registration and Section 12 registration
