Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Health Practitioner to join our Health Improvement team at Wiltshire Council. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in shaping our approach to tackling public health challenges and enhancing community well-being.

Main Duties

The successful candidate will support our Public Health function across health improvement, working on projects and programmes that address a range of agendas, including healthy ageing, whole system approaches to healthy weight, physical activity, and smoking cessation.

You will work closely with Public Health Specialists and Principals to support established projects and create new opportunities, engaging with communities and stakeholders to drive real results.

As a Public Health Practitioner, you will be responsible for leading and delivering operational direction in areas of designated responsibility, providing specialist public health advice and guidance to colleagues and partners.

You will also represent the Public Health Team and the Council at partnership events, partnership Boards, and multi-agency working groups, facilitating effective communication and collaboration.

Person Specification

We are looking for a candidate with a first degree or equivalent academic ability, experience of project management, and evidence of continuous professional development. You should have a good working knowledge of different aspects of public health and an understanding of local government, NHS, public, voluntary, and community sectors.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write reports and deliver presentations to a wide range of audiences, are essential. You should also have excellent interpersonal skills and influencing skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships and facilitate groups.

We welcome applications from candidates who are registered or working towards registration at practitioner level with UKPHR, and who have experience of working with health inclusion groups and up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance.
