Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Health Practitioner to join our Health Improvement team at Wiltshire Council. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in shaping our approach to tackling public health challenges and contributing to the enhancement of community well-being.

Main Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting our Public Health function across health improvement, working closely with Public Health Specialists and Principals to deliver projects and programmes of work. This will involve:

  • Providing public health practitioner advice, guidance, and support to colleagues and volunteers to ensure whole team achievements are met.
  • Leading on communication of relevant public health information to key partners and commissioned services.
  • Representing the Public Health Team and the Council at partnership events, partnership Boards, multi-agency working groups, professional groups, and other fora.
  • Supporting the work of existing partnerships and developing new ones where appropriate in response to specific defined needs.
  • Developing and leading on marketing campaigns for public health services, utilizing opportunities to promote the service to key partners.
  • Being a source of knowledge and expertise in particular public health topic areas through resource production, project management, training, contributing to websites, and disseminating information to partner organizations.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A first degree or qualification of equivalent academic ability or the ability to demonstrate equivalent skills and experience relevant to Public Health.
  • Experience of project management.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Experience working in the field of public health or a related area.
  • Good working knowledge of different aspects of public health.
  • Understanding of local government, NHS, public, voluntary, and community sector.
  • Experience of developing and delivering training, group, and 121 programmes, and/or community development programmes.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write reports and deliver presentations to a wide range of audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and influencing skills with proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships (internally and externally) and facilitate groups.
  • Ability to innovate, providing creative resolutions to solving problems, proactively anticipate problems, and deliver solutions which enhance the quality and efficiency of public health services and projects and uphold the reputation of the council.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret and evaluate information to inform effective decision making.
  • Excellent ICT skills, including the use of Microsoft applications and any relevant specialist systems.
