Job Title: Public Health Practitioner

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Public Health Practitioner to join our Health Improvement team at Wiltshire Council. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in supporting the development and implementation of public health strategies and initiatives that promote the health and well-being of our communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide public health advice and guidance to colleagues and stakeholders to ensure the effective delivery of public health services.
  • Lead on the development and implementation of public health projects and initiatives, including healthy ageing, whole system approach to healthy weight, physical activity, and smoking cessation.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including public health specialists, principal officers, and community groups, to promote public health and well-being.
  • Contribute to the development of public health policies and strategies, including the development of reports and presentations to inform decision-making.
  • Provide training and support to colleagues and stakeholders on public health topics, including health promotion, health protection, and health improvement.
  • Collaborate with other teams and departments to ensure the effective delivery of public health services and initiatives.

Person Specification:

  • Essential:
    • First degree or qualification of equivalent academic ability or the ability to demonstrate equivalent skills and experience relevant to public health.
    • Experience of project management and public health practice.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to write reports and deliver presentations to a wide range of audiences.
    • Ability to innovate and provide creative solutions to solving problems.
    • Excellent ICT skills, including the use of Microsoft applications and any relevant specialist systems.
  • Desirable:
    • Registration or working towards registration at practitioner level with UKPHR.
    • Experience of working with health inclusion groups, including pregnant women, people with mental health problems, people with learning disabilities, and children and young people.
    • Up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance in relation to working with and the safeguarding of children/vulnerable adults.
