We are seeking a highly skilled Public Health Practitioner to join our Health Improvement team at Wiltshire Council. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in shaping our approach to tackling public health challenges and contributing to the enhancement of community well-being.
Main DutiesThe successful candidate will support our Public Health function across health improvement, working on projects and programmes of work across a range of agendas including healthy ageing, whole system approach to healthy weight, physical activity, and smoking cessation. You will work closely with Public Health Specialists and Public Health Principals to support established projects and create new opportunities.
As a Public Health Practitioner, you will be responsible for leading and delivering the operational direction in areas of designated responsibility, providing a specialist public health approach with minimal supervision. You will work within a complex and wide-ranging multi-agency environment, partnering with other statutory, non-statutory, and voluntary agencies.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing public health practitioner advice, guidance, and support to colleagues and volunteers
- Leading on communication of relevant public health information to key partners and commissioned services
- Representing the Public Health Team and the Council at partnership events, partnership Boards, multi-agency working groups, professional groups, and other fora
- Supporting the work of existing partnerships and developing new ones where appropriate
- Developing and leading on marketing campaigns for public health services
- Being a source of knowledge and expertise in particular public health topic areas

Person SpecificationWe are looking for a candidate with:
- A first degree or qualification of equivalent academic ability or the ability to demonstrate equivalent skills and experience relevant to Public Health
- Experience of project management
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Experience working in the field of public health or related area
- Good working knowledge of different aspects of public health
- Understanding of local government, NHS, public, voluntary, and community sector
- Experience of developing and delivering training, group, and 121 programmes and/or community development programmes
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write reports and deliver presentations to a wide range of audiences
- Excellent interpersonal skills and influencing skills with proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships (internally and externally) and facilitate groups
