Main Job Responsibilities

The role of the Public Health Analyst involves performing data analysis for the Public Health team. This includes producing briefings on national data publications, covering various topics within the Public Health remit, such as hospital admissions, mortality, and health behaviors. The analyst will also support performance monitoring and evaluations of services delivered by Wiltshire Council.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update core datasets in line with national publication/data releases.
  • Identify and source new datasets for new outcome measures, assessing data accuracy and quality.
  • Support the delivery of the statutory Joint Strategic Needs Assessment, which aims to improve the health and wellbeing of the local community and reduce inequalities.
  • Undertake research, analysis, and interpretation of complex data on a regular basis, including hypothesis development, statistical tests, primary research, GIS mapping, and report writing.
  • Lead on analytical projects to identify the health needs of the population, such as the Health and Wellbeing JSNA, School Health survey, and Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment.
  • Ensure strict information governance guidance is adhered to and files stored securely.

Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent experience/skills working in information management and analysis.
  • Experience of working within information governance and data security guidelines.
  • Ability to maintain and develop personal skills in information analysis, statistical techniques, and software packages.
  • Advanced Excel skills and expert knowledge in a range of software packages relating to data management/manipulation.
  • Ability to relate and communicate effectively verbally and in writing with a wide range of audiences.
  • Statistical test experience including t-tests and correlation tests.
