About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled HVAC Systems Support Engineer to join our team at Shorterm Group. As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a critical role in facilitating the proposed HVAC internalisation plan for our Crewe facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Be the subject matter expert for HVAC Overhauls and repairs, providing technical guidance and support to the team.
  • Support the bid process for NPI (New Product Introduction) of rail vehicle HVAC equipment mileage-based overhauls.
  • Generate new or amend existing COI (Component Overhaul Instructions) for mileage-based overhauls of rail vehicle (cab/saloon/galley) HVAC units, including type testing and routine testing.
  • Support the creation of Bills of Materials (BOMs) for the overhaul process.
  • Be part of a team managing the obsolescence for all HVAC systems overhauled at the Crewe facility, including partial and full system redesign, and creation of necessary technical justification documentation.
  • Work with the manufacturing team to ensure on-time output of products, supporting general fault finding and resolution to issues.
  • Provide project support at Depot for FAI/FAR (First Article Inspections/First Article Reviews) following launch.
  • Support ongoing industrialisation activities across various HVAC products.
  • Lead overhaul modernisation programs, working with UK and Global teams to facilitate the introduction into the Crewe facility.
  • Stay up-to-date with global HVAC trends, including refrigerant availability and energy efficiency implications.
  • Have a strong understanding of electrical schematics and ability to use them for fault finding.
  • Work with BUS network systems and vehicle diagnostic tools used in on-train control and communication of HVAC equipment.
Requirements
  • Degree or Higher Certificate in engineering/technical discipline (preferred).
  • Strong experience in a similar role involving the maintenance and overhaul of safety-critical systems/equipment.
  • Knowledge of HVAC processes, including brazing, use of gases, and system vacuuming.
  • Knowledge of a maintenance management system, BOM management, and SAP.
  • Advanced/business fluent level of English.
