About the Position
As a Visual Communication and Wayfinding Specialist at Design JD, you will play a crucial role within our cohesive, creative team. This position offers the chance to spearhead a variety of projects, ranging from wayfinding assessments and strategies to branding, infographics, and marketing materials. This opportunity is ideal for someone passionate about redefining the realms of branding and design while making a significant impact on how our clients engage with their audiences.
This role is part of a collaborative effort between Design JD and Claro, a leading consultancy focused on inclusive design, wayfinding, and accessibility. You will have the exceptional chance to collaborate across both teams, contributing to projects that merge Design JD's creative prowess in branding and wayfinding with Claro's commitment to enhancing navigability and accessibility for everyone.
You will work closely with our Studio Manager while enjoying the independence to manage projects from inception to completion, ensuring that every design not only meets but surpasses client expectations. With a hybrid work model, you will benefit from the flexibility of remote work while also spending part of your week in our inspiring South London office.

Key Responsibilities
- Client Engagement: Collaborate with clients to grasp their business goals and project needs, translating these into compelling design solutions.
- Creative Direction: Oversee the creative process, from developing initial design concepts to final execution, ensuring all work aligns with client requirements and our brand standards.
- Innovative Design: Generate fresh ideas and interactive designs, challenging the norms of traditional wayfinding and graphic design.
- Project Coordination: Manage projects from brief to delivery, coordinating with external partners, and ensuring timely completion within budget.
- Field Engagement: Travel to various locations to conduct surveys, create wayfinding assessments and strategies, and supervise the implementation of your designs.
What We Seek
- Design Proficiency: Skilled in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat) on a Mac, with a robust portfolio showcasing your expertise in branding, information design, and signage.
- Creative Problem-Solving: Ability to tackle design challenges with creativity and innovation, delivering solutions that are both functional and visually appealing.
- Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients and team members. You are a team player who thrives in a collaborative, high-energy environment.
- Organizational Skills: Strong time management abilities, capable of handling multiple projects and meeting deadlines without sacrificing quality.
Additional Skills (preferred but not mandatory)
- Digital Proficiency: Familiarity with digital technologies such as WordPress, HTML, CSS, and experience in video creation and editing.
- Tech Enthusiasm: Interest in staying updated with the latest design tools and technologies, including CAD.
Qualifications
Minimum of 4 GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths, English, and ICT.
A-Level or equivalent in Design.
A portfolio that demonstrates a high level of creativity and design excellence.
