Job Overview

The Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust has a vacancy for an experienced State Registered Biomedical Scientist or Specialist BMS, with a salary of £45,000 - £60,000 per annum, depending on qualifications, knowledge, and experience.

The Cellular Pathology team handles 44,000 surgical and diagnostic requests annually across two sites. As the trust forms a large general hospital, we see a wide variety of tissue and diagnostic cytology specimens, including post-mortem work.

The main Cellular Pathology Laboratory is based at Bedford Hospital site, with an expectation that staff cover some shifts at Luton & Dunstable site. Digital Pathology is also being implemented.

Pathology has full UKAS accreditation, HTA & MHRA compliance.

Main Responsibilities

The post holder will assist in the day-to-day operations and technical aspects of the service.

They will assist the senior laboratory BMS in delivering a high-quality, efficient, and effective service through the Quality Management System [QMS]. They will assist in implementing change as directed by the laboratory seniors/manager, when delegated or appropriate to service needs.

The post holder is expected to implement policies and procedures ensuring that the service complies with current UKAS standards, national, and European legislation, and discipline-specific regulatory bodies.
