About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Paediatric Dietitian to join our team at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a Specialist Paediatric Dietitian, you will play a key role in providing a high-quality nutrition and dietetic service to children attending our outpatient clinics.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Deliver a specialist nutrition and dietetic service to children attending the outpatient clinic service, including allergy diagnosis and management, gastrointestinal issues, nutritional assessment, limited diet, and nutrient deficiencies.
  2. Co-ordinate service improvement projects within paediatric dietetics, working closely with the team lead to develop new ways of working.
  3. Represent the dietetic department at MDT meetings, case conferences, and child protection meetings, ensuring delivery of co-ordinated multi-disciplinary care.
  4. Oversee the management of patients under the care of the dietetic assistant practitioner in the paediatric team.
  5. Develop and maintain a specialist knowledge of evidence-based practice, common conditions, and national and local standards within paediatric dietetics.
  6. Undertake comprehensive assessments of patients, including those with complex presentations and multi-pathologies, and use clinical reasoning skills to set nutritional goals.
  7. Negotiate and agree dietary interventions with patients and their carers, using appropriate counselling and motivational skills to optimise their nutritional status.
  8. Make recommendations for appropriate prescription of nutritional products, according to local guidelines.
  9. Ensure adequate monitoring and review of patients, and co-ordinate follow-up, discharge arrangements, and outward referrals as necessary.
  10. Participate in regular supervision, provide supervision and support for the paediatric dietetic assistant practitioner, and contribute to the upskilling of the paediatric dietetic assistant practitioner.
  11. Supervise and assess students during their placement, and comply with the lone worker policy.
  12. Work flexibly to support the paediatric dietetics team, and provide cover for other wards/departments at short notice to cover unplanned and planned absences.

  • Ability to prioritise and manage time effectively and efficiently, and to work under own initiative
