We are looking for a secretary to join the secretarial and administration team in Pathology on our Bedford site. The post offers excellent opportunities for an enthusiastic and conscientious person to provide a comprehensive administration and secretarial service to the department of Histopathology in an efficient and timely manner and contributing to the overall success of the organisation.
You will have excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills. It's important that you are flexible, able to act on your own initiative and work both independently and as part of a team. You must be able to work under pressure to tight deadlines and prioritise workloads as well as being positive and enthusiastic.

An opportunity exists for a Histology Secretary to join our busy, friendly Laboratory service. Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust comprises of two busy hospitals sites in Bedford and Luton.
The successful applicant will be primarily on the Bedford Hospital Site and assist in the clerical support for the Histology Consultants.
To provide an administrative and secretarial service to all consultants within the Cellular Pathology Department, using judgmental skills to assess appropriate action required.
Accurate and timely production of cellular pathology and post mortem reports from audio recordings for authorisation by Consultant. Use of complex medical terminology is essential and must be accurate.
Distribute typed reports and copies of the reports as appropriate.
Be the first point of contact for written, telephone and personal enquiries on behalf of the department.
Typing of general letters and reports from audio and handwritten notes, ensuring correct proforma is added to the report, as appropriate.
Collation of material required for multi disciplinary team (MDT) meetings (slides and reports).
Collation of material for sendaway testing and second opinions (including material cross sites) following the correct SOPs. (including Molecular and Genetic testing). This will involve the use of courier tracking system. This may also involve (after training) remotely accessing other Hospital Pathology services LIMs systems to retrieve patient results.
Organise extra copies of reports when required
