Residential Estates Accountant

This role sits within the Property Management Services Team at Canary Wharf Group, responsible for estate management and service charge responsibilities across CWG's 3 estates. The Service Charge Accountant will lead on service charge accounting for all residential buildings across the Southbank Place development, including 3 residential buildings with circa 300 high-end flats/apartments.
The role will report to the Senior Property Accountant and work closely with the estate service charge accountant, building managers, estate managers, and the wider property management team to ensure commitments to residents are met in a timely, accurate, and professional manner.
The role will include oversight of billing, cash collection, service charge audits, and reporting obligations to key stakeholders.
Main Responsibilities:
- Assist building managers in preparing service charge budgets and inputting into Yardi system within expected timeframes for client and internal reporting requirements.
- Ensure best practice with RICS/ARMA service charge guidelines.
- Prepare service charge reconciliations to ensure accounts are issued in a timely manner in accordance with client expectations.
- Resolve queries raised by landlords and tenants.
- Review service charge expenditure and investigate variances.
- Attend monthly and quarterly budget meetings with building managers.
- Liaise with CWML Managing Directors and Directors on monthly and quarterly accounts.
- Raise quarterly service charge demands in a timely manner.
- Reconcile and recharge tenant direct recoveries.
- Monthly reviews of balance sheet accounts.
- Prepare and reconcile trial balances.
- Reconcile and calculate landlord liabilities.
- Account for PRS properties, including monitoring performance against KPIs.
- Liaise with auditors and the financial accounts team as required.
- Assist the wider service charge team.
- Experience with and a deep understanding of service charge accounting is essential, with experience in large complex residential service charge or estate service charge highly desirable.
- Part-qualified accountant or a desire to undertake an accounting qualification is highly desirable.
- Experience with property management systems is essential.
- Good Excel skills and an ability to work to a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to establish good working relationships across the organisation, particularly senior management, the Head of Residential, and other departments within Finance.
