Job Summary:

The Visual Rehabilitation Professional will work closely with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and other health care professionals to provide essential care on a referral basis in homes, workplaces, and communities.

This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to new situations. The ideal candidate will have experience working with clients who are blind or partially sighted and be able to assess visual acuity, visual fields, contrast sensitivity function, color vision, stereopsis, visual perceptual and visual motor functioning, literacy skills in reading and writing, etc.

Based on industry standards and national averages, we estimate this position will offer an annual salary of $65,000 - $85,000.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct Functional Low Vision Assessments using functional vision evaluation instruments to assess visual acuity, visual fields, contrast sensitivity function, color vision, stereopsis, visual perceptual and visual motor functioning, literacy skills in reading and writing, etc.
  • Deliver public speaking seminars and workshops on low vision services and related topics to community agencies/groups and health care professionals.
  • Liaise and build relationships with community-based rehabilitation teams, agencies, schools, partners, health practitioners, and stakeholders.
Requirements:
  • Meet the requirements of the VLRC National Vision Rehabilitation (Low Vision Specialist) Training Program.
  • Hold an undergraduate degree or equivalent in a health care or vision-related field.
