Job Summary

The Professional Midwifery Advocate will play a pivotal role in supporting the implementation of the Advocating for Education and Quality Improvement model (AEQUIP) within the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. This position requires a highly skilled and experienced midwife who can demonstrate clinical expertise, leadership, and a commitment to improving patient care.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver Restorative Clinical Supervision (RCS) to clinical teams, promoting a culture of psychological safety and situational awareness.
  • Collaborate with other Professional Midwifery Advocates to embed RCS and improve clinical governance.
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of teaching resources and programs to promote a learning environment.
  • Support the supervision, education, and pastoral care of colleagues, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge to deliver high-quality patient care.
  • Act as a role model, promoting inspirational leadership and visible leadership in the workplace.
  • Support change in clinical areas, ensuring that staff are equipped to adapt to new initiatives and policies.

Person Specification
  • Registered Midwife on the NMC register.
  • Teaching qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of post-registration CPD and post-registration qualification in an appropriate area of specialty or professional knowledge.
  • Evidence of completion of degree-level study (level 6).
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Recent significant post-registration experience working at a senior level in a clinical area for the NHS/healthcare setting.
  • Relevant and recent clinical experience within a care environment, including the supervision, education, and pastoral support of colleagues.
  • Evidence of ability to revalidate with the NMC.
  • Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of ongoing professional development & competence.
