Employee Relations Specialist Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Employee Relations Specialist to join our growing ER & Policy Team in Bristol. As an Employee Relations Specialist, you will lead on ER cases and provide specialist employee relations, employment law, and change management advice and guidance to HR and business stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise on managing underperformance, including Performance Improvement Plans, hearings, and appeals, and on complex sickness and disability cases.
  • Lead on disciplinary, grievance, and appeal cases, managing the overall process and engaging external support when needed.
  • Investigate cases, creating reports and recommendations of a high standard, and lead on redundancy and restructure cases and projects.
  • Deliver high-quality support, advice, and guidance on ER issues, including investigations, discipline and grievance hearings, flexible working requests, and policy.
  • Coach and advise the HR Team, Line Managers, and Senior Leaders on ER issues to ensure best practice is applied.
  • Maintain records of case management and tracking, and report on this data.
  • Create and deliver training on ER Issues to Partners, Line Managers, and HR Teams.
  • Develop best practice ER and keep up to date with employment law and HR policy changes, sharing knowledge with the wider HR team.
  • Support the Employment Policy team in creating new policies, reviewing existing policies, and conducting research.

Requirements:

  • Deep technical employment policy and employee relations expertise, supported by relevant work experience.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills, representing the ER function with professionalism.
  • Excellent people management skills and highly effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritise, influence, and operate as a coach/mentor to managers and individual members of staff.
  • Practice of leading, evolving, and driving forward people-related or change projects.
  • Collaborative and proactive in seeking opportunities to work with colleagues to co-create solutions.
  • Expert understanding of operating within an environment of multiple HR policies and procedures.
  • Well organised with the ability to work to tight deadlines and excellent attention to detail.
