About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Graduate Research Software Engineer to join our team at the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC). As a Graduate Research Software Engineer, you will play a key role in the development and maintenance of our research software systems, working closely with our team of experienced researchers and software engineers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain research software systems, including data analysis and visualization tools, machine learning algorithms, and web applications.
  • Collaborate with researchers and software engineers to design, develop, and test software systems, ensuring they meet the needs of our research projects.
  • Contribute to the development of new software systems and tools, using a range of programming languages and technologies.
  • Work with our team to identify and prioritize software development projects, ensuring they align with our research goals and objectives.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for our software systems, including user guides, technical notes, and code comments.
Requirements
  • A minimum of a 2:1 degree in a relevant field of study, such as computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Strong programming skills, with experience in languages such as Python, Java, or C++.
  • Experience with software development methodologies, such as Agile or Scrum.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with researchers and software engineers.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex problems and develop effective solutions.
