Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a Therapy Assistant in the Endoscopy Unit at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the smooth operation of our unit.

The successful candidate will have recent acute hospital experience and be able to work flexibly across sites. A post-registration endoscopy-related qualification is desirable, but not essential. Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide care in the clinical area as an effective member of the team.
  • Establish a safe working environment for patients and staff, ensuring patient contact and dignity are not compromised.
  • Arrange the reception, admission, transfer, and nurse-led discharge of patients, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating programmes of care within the specialty.
  • Take responsibility for a group of patients and act as team leader where appropriate, coordinating the utilization of staff and Endoscopy lists.
  • Act as named nurse and room nurse in the unit, providing competent assistance during a range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Carry out the decontamination process of endoscopes and have an awareness of general and specific infection control measures and related issues.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Endoscopy equipment, the function, and application of all endoscopes and systems, potential malfunctions, and hazards of endoscopic equipment/substances and corrective action.
  • Maintain appropriate department documentation, including profiles, care plans, and electronic records.
  • Coordinate safe transfer and positioning of patients.
  • Assist in the cleaning of clinical areas and equipment, ensuring the area is clear of potential hazards.
