Working within East Lancashire Child and Adolescent Service, the Child Mental Health Practitioner belongs to one of a number of relevant professional backgrounds (eg Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy etc.) The Practitioner works within an MDT Framework. The service is delivered against the principles of the THRIVE model

In line with national guidance and the CAMHS strategy, the Child Mental Health Practitioner will work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team providing direct work with young people and their carers/families. This post is an exciting opportunity to work within the Intensive Support Team/ Day unit working with the most vulnerable young people and their families

Undertake assessments of problems and provide appropriate therapeutic interventions and advice to children and/or their families/carers, particularly around issues relating to therapeutic approaches.

Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, in addition to working as a sole practitioner, contributing to assessment and treatment decisions.

Be willing to deliver a service in locations other than an outpatient clinic base, balancing those needs of the client and/or family, those determined by the therapeutic intervention and safe practice.

Attend and contribute to organised clinical supervision forums with the aim of enhancing one’s own clinical practice.

Liaise and when necessary work, with other professionals involved with children and their families/carers, from agencies such as Health, Social Services, Education, Voluntary Services etc.

Work with other professionals in Primary or Secondary Care settings to educate children’s mental health needs in families and social settings.

Proactively remain up to date and professionally accountable to the relevant regulatory body code of conduct

Play an active part as a co-practitioner in the clinical assessment and decision making around children who self harm

The Trust offers preceptorship for newly qualified practitioners.

The role involves travel between sites, so access to private transport for work purposes is essential. due to current circumstances the role currently combines home working as well as clinical service commitments across hospital sites
1. Assess the needs of child/young person and produce a package of care in conjunction with fellow team members and child/young person. Liaise with other Intensive Support Team members as appropriate.
2. To work autonomously, carrying a caseload of complex clinical activity.
3. Assess, plan and implement a package of care on an out-reach/in-centre basis as an autonomous practitioner.
4. Participate in individual care approach.
5. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate a plan of care in partnership with young people/parents and other multi-disciplinary team members.
6. Assist in the admission and discharge of Intensive Support Team clients.
