About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Gastroenterology Consultant to join our team at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, leading clinical teams, and contributing to the development of our gastroenterology services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take responsibility for patients under your care, providing expert clinical advice and guidance to ensure the best possible outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialties, participating in regular clinical meetings and postgraduate activities.
  • Participate in the development of the gastroenterology service, treatment protocols, and guidelines, and contribute to the greater knowledge in the management of gastroenterology conditions.
  • Take responsibility for the professional supervision and development of trainee doctors within the specialty.
  • Demonstrate a firm involvement in Clinical Governance, Risk Management, and Clinical Audit, ensuring continued safe clinical practice.
  • Ensure your own practice is up-to-date, including responsibility for your own Clinical Professional Development and Appraisal.
  • Participate in the GI bleed OOH rota, providing emergency care and support to patients.
  • Comply with all relevant Trust Policies and Procedures.

Requirements
  • Basic Medical Degree
  • Full MRCP or equivalent
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT or CESR
  • JAG accreditation for diagnostic and therapeutic upper GI endoscopy
  • JAG accreditation for independent colonoscopy
  • Evidence of Higher Specialist Training in Gastroenterology
  • ALS (Adult Life Support) within the last 3 years
  • GMC Registration
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Higher Medical Degree
  • Experience of clinical leadership within the team
  • Evidence of engagement and understanding in clinical governance
  • Ability to use the evidence base, including clinical audit and QI, to support decision-making and service development
  • Evidence of research experience and published work
