About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious Junior Buyer to join our team at Peacocks, a leading fashion retailer based in Cardiff. As a Junior Buyer, you will play a key role in supporting the Buying team in planning and implementing category strategy, ensuring that products are developed to optimise department profitability and support the wider company strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Creating and executing the buying strategy, including range building and product development
  • Sourcing, selecting, and negotiating with suppliers to obtain optimum product, prices, and terms of contract
  • Taking ownership of critical path and deadlines, ensuring that any issues are raised and addressed promptly
  • Participating in meetings at Director/Head of level to ensure effective communication of key information
  • Reviewing and analysing sales data to identify top-performing products and lines, and making data-driven decisions for future lines and intakes
  • Staying up-to-date with competitor and retail trends to inform product selection and optimise stock levels within budget guidelines
  • Assisting in the training and development of junior members of the team
  • Collaborating with other departments within the company to ensure the successful launch of new product lines and seasonal collections
Requirements
  • Demonstrable fashion experience gained at a Senior Assistant Buyer level
  • A good understanding of current fashion trends and market knowledge
  • Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to build strong relationships with suppliers
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Organised and detailed-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, projects, and deadlines
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages and experience with buying systems
