About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at Gerrell & Hard Ltd. as a 3D CAD specialist. As a key member of our Engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing mechanical elements of vehicles, working closely with the wider project team to ensure projects are delivered on time and to specification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical elements of vehicles, from prototype to manufacture
  • Work with the Engineering team to integrate vehicle systems and ensure seamless design and development
  • Participate in design reviews and project meetings to ensure projects are on track
  • Support the build and testing of prototype vehicles and participate in certification and homologation processes
  • Deliver CAD data and drawings to enable series production of vehicles
  • Support the production team and wider company to deliver production vehicles
  • Problem solve and resolve issues, updating existing design data and associated revision control
  • Help develop engineering processes and continually look for opportunities to improve designs, safety, and efficiency

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification
  • Background in niche, low-volume, or motorsport engineering with a broad understanding of vehicle systems
  • High level of attention to detail and focus on safety and risk minimization
  • Able to create clean sheet designs, taking them from concept to manufacture
  • Able to understand and translate design requirements into reality, including Type Approval and legislative requirements
  • Able to balance technical and commercial aspects of component and system design
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and their selection
  • Experienced in integrating mechanical and electrical systems into a vehicle platform
  • Skilled 3D CAD user, preferably Solidworks
  • Able to generate detailed component and assembly drawings, Bills of Materials, and review and sign off the work of others
  • Some understanding of FEA methods and experience of vehicle testing and development
  • Strong problem-solving and lateral thinking skills, with a hands-on approach

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of composite manufacturing techniques
  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing / 3D printing
  • Interest in and knowledge of electric systems

  • Motorsport experience
