Bicester, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom https:www.energyjobline.comsitemap Full time

You're a highly skilled Senior Thermo-Mechanical Engineer who'll work on the development of advanced engineering high temperature sensors operating at up to 1400°C in aerospace applications. You'll be researching materials for the development of OEM integrated sensor solutions with leading global companies in the Aerospace, Automotive, and Robotics industries for the measurement of Torque, Force, Pressure, and Temperature.

Current applications include torque systems for eDrive motors, motor racing driveline shafts, and torque systems for aerospace engines. The sensor systems utilise proprietary technology and componentry including sensing elements and a dedicated ASIC. The ASIC delivers an RF signal to the sensing elements and receives their resonant response, from which the physical measurement can be established using software analysis and calibration algorithms.

You'll have a strong understanding of engineering, physics, and/or materials science. You would work as part of an integrated team of engineers looking at the full system, including mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing. The role brings with it the ability to use a wide range of experiences and knowledge, while at the same time working within a flexible and creative team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design and development of high temperature electro-mechanical sensing systems, utilising 3D and FEA modelling and testing.
  • Researching high temperature materials and components for use in sensing systems and using this information to help develop new sensing solutions.
  • Working with suppliers to select and qualify components and materials and ensure compliance with quality and industry standards.
  • Analysing and interpreting technical specifications, schematics, and engineering drawings to create innovative designs that meet project requirements.
  • Maintaining knowledge of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies, and applying them to improve design processes and product performance.

Requirements include a PhD or Master's degree in Engineering or Materials related science subject, research or industrial experience into high temperature materials ideally with Piezo properties, coatings, and harsh environments, and expertise in at least one of the following industry standard software tools: MATLAB, Simulink, COMSOL, SolidWorks, and proficiency in Python & C.
