Senior Research Engineer - Additive Manufacturing Expert

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Research Engineer to join our Additive Manufacturing Team based in Coventry. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering technical excellence across a portfolio of projects, providing thought leadership on the delivery of innovative technical solutions, and playing a leadership role in the delivery of impactful project outputs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • You will own the impact of existing products and develop Value Propositions to raise awareness of the existing products and emerging value propositions you lead.
  • You will contribute to technical and business strategies by developing specific technical and multi-theme roadmaps that define how technology-based value propositions can be developed to meet the manufacturing challenges identified by the Industrial Sectors.
  • You will identify collaborative research and development funding opportunities and develop winning proposals to fund the development of the value propositions you lead.
  • You will ensure that your colleagues receive the most appropriate technical guidance and governance in the delivery of their project work.
  • You will mentor and coach colleagues in an empathetic manner.
  • You will provide technical governance as required for all aspects of MTC's proposal and project delivery processes.

This role will also involve horizon scanning future technology, being aware of technology being researched by academia, and raising awareness of potential opportunities for our business. You will work closely with the cohort of Technology Managers and Technical Specialists and the management teams of the Technology and Industrial Sectors, providing specialist input to the business development, product management, and technology management functions.

Person Specification

We are looking for a candidate who:

Essential

  • Has a degree-calibre in engineering, technology, science, or mathematics.
  • Has hands-on operation of polymer AM equipment.
  • Has experience in polymer AM process research and development.
  • Has knowledge of polymer chemistry and polymer AM material formulation.

Desirable

  • Has experience of ceramic AM processes and materials.
  • Has knowledge of AM standards, certification, and qualification.

We are looking for a candidate who is able to manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, influence and negotiate with them, and provide technical governance as required. The ideal candidate will have expertise recognised both internally and externally within their field, probably as a chartered engineer or scientist and Fellow of an appropriate institution. They will also have leadership capability, be resilient and courageous in the face of continuous change and growth, and be proactive in seeing the opportunities that these create for the role they deliver.
