Job Title: Head of Academic English

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Academic English to join our team at Harris Science Academy East London. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of our English curriculum, ensuring that our students receive a high-quality education that prepares them for success in their future careers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development and implementation of the English curriculum, ensuring that it is aligned with the academy's vision and values.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other stakeholders to ensure that the curriculum is delivered effectively and that students receive a high-quality education.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, identifying areas for improvement and developing strategies to address them.
  • Develop and implement assessment and evaluation procedures to measure student progress and achievement.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to teachers to support their professional development and improve teaching and learning.
  • Contribute to the development of the academy's policies and procedures, ensuring that they are aligned with the English curriculum and the academy's vision and values.
Requirements:
  • QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree.
  • Minimum of one year's teaching experience.
  • Proven success in raising achievement.
  • High level of ICT skills and experience of how new technologies can be used to raise achievement.
  • Recent experience of involvement in innovative curriculum development.
  • Good understanding of creative whole school strategies for improving literacy and numeracy and the importance of this in raising achievement.
  • Experience of embedding innovative strategies for Assessment for Learning and Learning to Learn.
  • Willingness to use coaching as a model for ensuring on-going professional development.
