Job Title: Head of Academic English

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Head of Academic English to join our team at Harris Federation. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of our English curriculum, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning across the subject area.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development and implementation of the English curriculum, ensuring it is broad, balanced, and relevant to the needs of our students.
  • Ensure the provision of high-quality teaching and learning across the subject area, through continuous professional development and coaching of staff.
  • Manage and deploy teaching and support staff, financial and physical resources across the subject area, to ensure effective and efficient use of resources.
  • Develop and implement strategies to raise standards of literacy and numeracy across the academy, working closely with the Director of Education.
  • Contribute to the development of subject and faculty improvement plans, and assist in the development of appropriate syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies, assessment and teaching strategies.
Requirements:
  • Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree.
  • Have a minimum of one year's teaching experience.
  • Show good understanding of creative whole-school strategies for improving literacy and numeracy, and the importance of this in raising achievement.
  • Be willing to use coaching as a model for ensuring ongoing professional development.
