About the Role:

CareTech Group is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Residential Deputy Manager to join our team at Cambian. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about delivering high-quality care and support to children and young people.

Job Description:

We are looking for a qualified and experienced individual to assist the Registered Manager in achieving the aims and objectives of the Statement of Purpose. The successful candidate will be responsible for deputising in the absence of the Registered Manager, supporting and managing staff, undertaking direct work with children and young people, and managing child protection concerns and complaints.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To ensure that each young person has an allocated key worker and that each member of staff is aware of each child's placement plan and their responsibilities for its implementation.
  • To attend childcare reviews and planning meetings to provide information and achieve best outcomes for young people.
  • To undertake direct work with young people and act as an appropriate role model.
  • To maintain accurate written records in logs, continuation sheets, and files both to record information and enable regular monitoring and evaluation to take place.
  • To work in partnership with parents, carers, and other professionals to safeguard and promote the welfare of young people.

Staff Management:

  • To provide managerial control and direction in relation to staff duties and responsibilities.
  • To assist with the recruitment and retention of staff, including induction training for new staff into the home.
  • To supervise new starters during their probationary period.
  • To develop a management style which balances the need to exercise control and give direction with the need to offer staff the opportunity to decision-making.
  • To take responsibility for planning shifts and ensuring their smooth running when on duty.
  • To provide consultation and informal advice and support to staff in relation to day-to-day matters.
  • To offer 1:1 supervision to staff in line with National Minimum Standards.

Resource Allocation:

  • To ensure adequate staffing levels that meet the needs of the Home.
  • To ensure that budgets are managed effectively and the use of finances is properly monitored.
  • To ensure that company vehicles are clean and regularly maintained.

Operation of the Home:

  • To develop routines in consultation with young people and staff in relation to all aspects of child care.
  • To clarify expectations in relation to maintaining the Home in a clean and orderly condition.
  • To create rotas which fit best with children's needs and which allow proper handovers between shifts.
  • To ensure that there are appropriate and adequate reporting and recording systems in place to comply with National Minimum Standards.

Qualifications and Experience:

The ideal candidate will have a relevant qualification such as NVQ 3 in caring for Children and Young People (or equivalent) and working towards NVQ4. They will also have a current driving license and excellent organizational skills.

Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 per annum, dependent on experience
