Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) specialist to lead our IPC hub and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

About the Role: As an IPC Hub Lead, you will be responsible for maintaining professional development, registration, and associated requirements. You will monitor compliance with Spire policies and their implementation, escalating non-compliance to the DIPC. You will also assist the DIPC in developing and delivering the IPC annual program and strategy, driving and monitoring progress.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain Professional Development: Ensure ongoing professional development, registration, and associated requirements are met.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Monitor compliance with Spire policies and their implementation, escalating non-compliance to the DIPC.
  • IPC Program Development: Assist the DIPC in developing and delivering the IPC annual program and strategy.
  • IPC Strategy Implementation: Drive and monitor progress of the IPC strategy.
  • Environmental Refurbishment: Participate in hospital environmental refurbishment and development, ensuring IPC compliance and sign-off.
  • IPC Committee Attendance: Attend the hospital's IPC committee.
  • Antimicrobial Stewardship: Attend Antimicrobial Stewardship, Water Safety, and Ventilation Safety meetings, acting as a subject matter expert on IPC.
  • Post-Infection Reviews: Support clinical teams with post-infection reviews.
  • Infection Surveillance: Monitor and surveillance of infections, including trend analysis.
  • Working Relationships: Develop strong working relationships and escalation pathways with hospital DIPC's.
  • Auditing: Support the auditing process for IPC, alongside the hospital clinical governance team, identifying trends, analyzing data, and compiling reports for internal and external submission.
  • Mandatory Surveillance: Carry out mandatory surveillance and reporting to external bodies (PHE/HPS/HPW) for alert organisms.
  • Data Collection: Contribute to local data collection and submission to internal committees, such as the Clinical Audit and Effectiveness Committee.
  • Microbiological Reports: Support clinical colleagues with interpretation of microbiological reports.
  • Infection Management: Advise on the local management of patients with infections/infectious conditions.
  • IPC Information: Support local information regarding IPC issues to patients and visitors.
  • Risk Assessments: Work with colleagues to identify infection risks and undertake risk assessments to effectively manage associated risks.
  • IPC Link Personnel: Establish IPC link personnel on all wards and in clinical departments, ensuring they receive regular information and training.
  • IPC Education: Educate and train hospital colleagues in methods of IPC, establishing educational programs to meet the needs of all colleagues.
  • Decontamination: Provide information and advice on appropriate decontamination.

Requirements:

  • Registered Healthcare Professional: Must be a registered healthcare professional.
  • IPC Experience: Proven knowledge and experience of working at a senior level within IPC.
  • Education: Educated to at least degree level, post-registration qualification in IPC, or evidence of working towards post-registration qualification.
  • IT Skills: Proficiency in IT software, including Microsoft Office software packages, internet, and email.
  • Travel: Ability to travel across the hub, with a driving license being an advantage.
