As a Specialist English Educator, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional educational experiences for neurodiverse young adults aged 16 to 25. Your primary focus will be on leading our English curriculum, crafting and delivering engaging lessons tailored for learners at pre-entry and level 2.

Our educational framework is not limited by traditional qualifications; instead, it is designed around the Post 16 Study Programme model. This model encompasses a comprehensive learning experience, including work placements, essential skills in Maths and English, and various enriching activities aimed at preparing our learners for adulthood. While your primary responsibility will be to teach English, you will also collaborate with fellow educators to enhance their English instruction.

You will receive extensive training and support to ensure that our learners have a fulfilling educational journey. This includes opportunities for curriculum development and collaboration with our integrated therapies team to better support our students.

With class sizes ranging from 5 to 7 learners, you will have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with each student.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the teaching team to integrate functional English into personalized learning plans.
  • Lead classroom sessions, including planning, instruction, and assessment, with a focus on functional English skills across diverse classes.
  • Track and document learner progress, both academically and in relation to their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP).
  • Engage closely with learners to inspire and motivate them to achieve their full potential.
  • Provide enriching learning experiences, whether in the classroom or community settings, working one-on-one or in small groups.
  • Guide Learning Support Assistants to effectively assist learners.
  • Develop individualized curricula that cater to the unique needs of each learner, adapting your teaching style as necessary.
  • Identify and address any risks to learner progress, demonstrating a commitment to understanding each young person's needs.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Demonstrated patience, empathy, and resilience—essential for supporting neurodiverse learners.
  • Strong communication abilities to interact effectively with learners, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience with EHCPs and tailoring curricula to meet individual learner outcomes.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to navigate the dynamic nature of the educational environment.
  • A genuine passion for educating individuals with diverse needs.
