As a Specialist English Educator, you will play a crucial role in providing tailored educational experiences for neurodiverse young adults aged 16 to 25. Your primary focus will be on developing and implementing an engaging English curriculum that meets the diverse needs of our learners.

Our educational framework is designed around the Post 16 Study Programme model, which encompasses a variety of learning opportunities, including work experience, functional skills in Maths and English, and enriching activities that prepare our learners for adulthood. While the broader curriculum is essential, your expertise will specifically enhance our English instruction, collaborating with fellow educators to support their English teaching efforts.

You will receive comprehensive training and support to ensure our learners have the best educational experience possible. This includes opportunities for curriculum development and collaboration with our integrated therapies team to address the unique needs of each learner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the teaching team to integrate functional English into personalized learning plans.
  • Lead classroom activities, including lesson planning, instruction, and assessment focused on functional English skills.
  • Monitor and document student progress academically and in relation to their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes.
  • Engage with learners to inspire and motivate them to achieve their full potential.
  • Create inspiring learning experiences both in the classroom and within the community, working with learners individually or in small groups.
  • Guide Learning Support Assistants to effectively support learners in their educational journey.
  • Develop individualized curricula tailored to each learner's needs, adapting your teaching style as necessary.
  • Identify and address any potential barriers to learner progress, striving to understand and meet each young person's unique requirements.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Demonstrated patience, compassion, and resilience, particularly when working with neurodiverse learners.
  • Strong communication skills, essential for engaging with learners, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience with EHCPs and the ability to tailor curricula based on individual learner goals.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to navigate the dynamic nature of the educational environment.
  • A genuine passion for educating individuals with diverse needs.
