Job Summary

Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly motivated and forward-thinking Consultant in Respiratory Medicine to join our team of experienced clinicians. The successful candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of respiratory medicine and an interest in Sleep/NIV and/or other sub-specialisms.

About the Role

The post presents an excellent opportunity for experienced clinicians to join our dynamic team committed to delivering the highest standard of care. The successful candidate will work closely with the existing 5 Respiratory Medicine Consultants and have opportunities to work with the existing lung cancer team.

Key Responsibilities
  1. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build a new patient workload and will be a key member of the consultant team in a very busy Respiratory Medicine department.
  2. Ward rounds: The post holder will be responsible for up to 15 patients.
  3. Outpatient Clinics: The post holder will be responsible for one general respiratory clinic and two specialist clinics.
  4. Lung cancer services: The post holder will support the existing lung cancer services and work with the team of 2 lung cancer clinicians and extended specialist nursing team.
  5. Other sub-speciality interests: There are opportunities to work with existing ILD / airways/ INTEGRATED Respiratory care team as part of developing other specialist interests.
  6. The post holder will provide a supportive role in delivery of care for the high dependency Respiratory care unit.
  7. The post holder will be expected to participate in departmental meetings and demonstrate effective clinical leadership to departmental staff and medical students.
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • MB BS, MB ChB or equivalent.
  • Higher medical qualification (medical education/teaching and MRCP, MRCGP or equivalent) training.
  • Full current GMC registration with a licence to practice.
  • CCT/Specialist Registration in Respiratory and General Medicine or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.

The successful candidate will have experience in Respiratory Medicine, excellent advanced communication skills, and experience of participation in and leading clinical audit.
