We are looking for a Medical and First Aid Lead to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for administering first aid and managing the register of suitably qualified first aiders within the Academy. They will also arrange and communicate a first aid duty rota, as well as supporting other first aiders.

The ideal candidate will have a good standard of education, including English and Mathematics GCSE or equivalent. They will also have awareness of current public health services, knowledge of safeguarding procedures, and knowledge of Microsoft software. Some understanding of infection control and a First Aid qualification are also essential.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the highest possible standards of clinical procedures are maintained. They will also liaise with parents/carers and medical personnel to ensure that the health needs of students are satisfied.

Main Areas of Responsibility

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Administering first aid and managing the register of suitably qualified first aiders within the Academy
  • Arranging and communicating a first aid duty rota, as well as supporting other first aiders
  • Ensuring that the highest possible standards of clinical procedures are maintained
  • Liaising with parents/carers and medical personnel to ensure that the health needs of students are satisfied
  • Managing the health and safety and compliance of the Medical room
  • Coordinating communication home around any first aid incidents
  • Writing and updating all individual health care plans, tracking and monitoring
  • Administering the programme of, and assisting where necessary in student medical examinations
  • Advising and training Academy staff in specific procedures which they may be expected to carry out in the absence of a trained nurse
  • Promoting health education in partnership with the teaching/support staff
  • Ensuring that suitable and sufficient stocks of first aid consumables and equipment are maintained
  • Working within current Child Protection Procedures and to liaise with the nominated Child Protection Officer
  • Meeting with outside agencies such as CAMHS, the Local Authority (NHS) school nurse, social care, site police officer, local GPs and dentists, opticians etc. and implementing care from these meetings.
  • Referring to the in-school Mental Health Lead, into CAMHs and other mental health services, as well as following up referrals with the CAMHs in school team.
  • Supporting children who self-harm (full range) and documenting incidents and support on CPOMs, as well as informing CAMHS/Local Authority (NHS) school nursing
