We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced individual to join our team as a Medical and First Aid Lead. The successful candidate will be responsible for administering first aid and managing the register of suitably qualified first aiders within the Academy.
The ideal candidate will have a good standard of education, including English and Mathematics GCSE or equivalent, and awareness of current public health services. They will also have knowledge of safeguarding procedures, confidentiality, and Microsoft software. Some understanding of infection control and first aid qualification are also essential.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Being the first point of contact in respect of administering first aid and the named responsible officer for all first aid matters
- Managing the register of suitably qualified first aiders within the Academy
- Arranging and communicating a first aid duty rota, as well as supporting other first aiders
- The health and safety and compliance of the Medical room
- Liaising with the academy catering supplier regarding student dietary requirements
- Administration of student medication
- Delivering the specific medical related needs of students as defined within their individual Statements of Additional Needs / care plans
- Using Medical Tracker and other records to keep logs of all first aid incidents, medication and medical conditions
- Analysing and reporting on data on the Medical Tracker, suggesting solutions for improvement e.g. reduction of injuries in various locations
- Attending regular Medical report meetings with the Director of Resources
- Coordinating communication home around any first aid incidents
- Writing and updating all individual health care plans, tracking and monitoring
- Administering the programme of, and assisting where necessary in student medical examinations
- Advising and training Academy staff in specific procedures which they may be expected to carry out in the absence of a trained nurse
- Promoting health education in partnership with the teaching/support staff
- Ensuring that the highest possible standards of clinical procedures are maintained
- Liaising with parents/carers and medical personnel to ensure that the health needs of students are satisfied
- Ensuring that suitable and sufficient stocks of first aid consumables and equipment are maintained
- Working within current Child Protection Procedures and to liaise with the nominated Child Protection Officer
- Meeting with outside agencies such as CAMHS, the Local Authority (NHS) school nurse, social care, site police officer, local GPs and dentists, opticians etc. and implementing care from these meetings.
- Referring to the in-school Mental Health Lead, into CAMHs and other mental health services, as well as following up referrals with the CAMHs in school team.
- Supporting children who self-harm (full range) and documenting incidents and support on CPOMs, as well as informing CAMHS/Local Authority (NHS) school nursing
