Job Summary:

We are seeking an Addiction Specialist Doctor to join our team at Humankind Charity. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in delivering and maintaining excellent clinical practice, working with service users to develop personalized support packages.

Main Duties:

  • Work in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team to develop and deliver prescribing treatment modalities for service users.
  • Prescribe cost-effectively and according to best practice, providing prescribing information and advice to Pharmacists, Shared Care GPs, and hospital teams.
  • Support colleagues through individual clinical reviews, discussing and developing safe and effective treatment plans.
  • Deliver health promotion and harm reduction interventions in a client-centered manner, including safer sex, contraception, nutrition, and healthy living.
  • Liaise with agencies delivering services to or sharing care of clients, including sharing care with GPs for Service Users in Shared Care Services.
  • Lead on complex alcohol detoxification assessments for individuals with decompensated liver disease and tolerance to diazepam.
  • Provide prescribing information and advice to Pharmacy and Shared Care GPs.
  • Review service users with complex physical comorbidities, including decompensated liver disease, the older population, end-stage COPD, and end-of-life care.
  • Participate in external and internal subgroups, taking responsibility for producing or co-producing plans and reports as requested.
  • Work with service users with complex polypharmacy usage, including illicit, over-the-counter, and prescription-only medication.
  • Undertake doctor-only specific clinics as needed, overseeing prescribing for complexity and off-formulary prescribing.
  • Undertake initial reviews, triage, and ongoing support of complex dual diagnosis/presentation, including pregnancy and young people.
  • Provide specialist advice in the management of misuse of POM opioid analgesia to primary care colleagues and the wider internal clinical team.
