About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Nurse Practitioner to join our team at Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust. As a Senior Nurse Practitioner, you will play a key role in leading and directing the clinical care and operation within our Acute Inpatient ward.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of clinical guidelines and protocols relevant to the inpatient area in partnership with relevant colleagues.
  • Provide expert advice and clinical support to colleagues, contributing directly to the formulation and treatment plan.
  • Provide specialist care for individuals presenting with or at high risk of developing physical health risks.
  • Responsible for the evaluation of specific projects and formulate reports to inform future service provision/developments.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the service, reporting outcomes against agreed service standards and performance indicators, participation in clinical audit, patient satisfaction questionnaires etc.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the resource implications of clinical decision making.
  • Participate in the induction of any new team members/students offering advice support, and teaching/development opportunities as required.
  • Provide timely, accurate statistical information to demonstrate clinical activity.
  • Ensure own personal practice and professional development is planned and achieved in line with revalidation requirements.
  • Provide clinical leadership and act as an expert resource and role model for the multidisciplinary team.
  • The post holder will be expected to provide evidence-based care and have an active involvement in any research and audit within their sphere of responsibility.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Specialist knowledge of Mental Health inpatient care specific to the area working in (acute, older adults, rehabilitation and forensic services).
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, national legal frameworks.
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding Adults and Children policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and its application in practice.
  • Knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control Procedures.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound clinical knowledge and awareness of current evidence base relevant to the area of practice.
  • Organisational ability and time management skills.
  • Advanced clinical assessment skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and problem solve.
  • Presentation skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to critically appraise research to evaluate and enhance practice.
  • Knowledge of Adverse Childhood Experiences / is a trauma informed clinician.

Desirable

  • Awareness of wider health and social care agenda relating to specific inpatient ward.
  • Knowledge of audit tools.
  • Passionate about trauma informed service development.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse.
  • Non-Medical Prescriber Qualification (or willingness to work towards until achieved).
  • Degree level qualification or significant equivalent demonstrable clinical experience.
  • Mentorship qualification.
  • Student mentorship training/qualification.
  • Evidence of post-registration Continuing Professional Development.

Desirable

  • Masters level equivalency knowledge, education and skills training.
  • Teaching and Assessing qualification.
  • Clinical Supervision qualification/training.
  • Clinical Leadership qualification/training.

Experience

Essential

  • Substantial post-registration experience.
  • Evidence of achievement in clinical practice and/or leadership within an area of speciality.
  • Working knowledge of Clinical Governance.
  • Evidence of implementing innovation and change in clinical practice.
  • Evidence of undertaking clinical audit and/or research in clinical practice.

Desirable

  • IT Skills.
  • Experience working with patients in the specific area.
  • Clinical and theoretical teaching in a range of contexts.
