About the Role
The University Health Service is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Advanced Clinical Practitioner to lead and develop our nursing team. As a key member of our management team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our healthcare services.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategically lead the nursing team to deliver high-quality patient services, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing changes to enhance patient care.
- Advocate for nurse-led services, working closely with stakeholders to promote the benefits of advanced practice nursing.
- Directly manage a large and complex clinical team, providing guidance and support to ensure they have the skills and motivation to deliver excellent patient care.
- Contribute to the development of practice-based commissioning, working collaboratively with other members of the management team to ensure maximum uptake of screening and immunisation opportunities.
- Evaluate service delivery, identifying areas for improvement and proposing developments to enhance patient access.
- Determine priorities to contribute to long-term planning around workforce and resource deployment.
- Develop and maintain network links with fellow professionals in the wider community, promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Clinical Duties
- Provide a first point of contact for patients presenting with undifferentiated, undiagnosed problems, using advanced clinical skills to establish a diagnosis and management plan.
- Undertake triage, online, telephone, and face-to-face, for patients seeking access to services.
- Provide safe, evidence-based, cost-effective, individualized patient care, referring patients directly to other services or agencies as appropriate.
- Occasionally work out of hours to support vaccination campaigns, health promotion campaigns, and other events within the University.
- Maintain a knowledge and understanding of data governance issues.
- Engage with the practice clinical governance framework, including safeguarding, significant event reporting, whistleblowing, and duty of candour policies.
- Maintain and update own professional knowledge in areas of practice and pass on new skills and knowledge to the practice team.
Person Specification
- Professional clinical registration (NMC/HCPC) with demonstrable post-registered management experience in Primary Care.
- Non-Medical Prescriber and Postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Practice, including Advanced Physical Assessment.
Essential Experience
- Ability to develop policy and strategy, ensuring nursing services meet the overall aims of the service.
- Experience of managing a large, complex clinical team.
- Experience of reviewing individual/team progress and performance and embedding organisational strategy into individual performance planning.
- Ability to lead, manage, motivate, and develop others on a personal and team level.
- Ability to negotiate and influence a range of people, including key decision-makers.
- Ability to work as part of a team in a busy environment and consider the wider team working effort, supporting a positive team culture.
- Ability to manage own workload and time to deliver care in a safe and competent manner.
- Excellent customer service skills, with experience of responding efficiently and effectively to phone and email enquiries.
Desirable Experience
- Experience of working with a student population.
